Suicide bid by woman cop in Tiruvannamalai

Oviya (22) of Villupuram had joined the police force in 2017.

After basic training, she was posted in the armed reserve wing in Tiruvannamalai a couple of weeks ago. She and her husband Kumaresan, who is also an armed reserve wing personnel, were residing in a rented house at Vengikkal.

Oviya slit her wrist while she was alone in the house on Sunday, said police. Relatives, who had visited Oviya’s house later in the evening, were shocked to find her bleeding from the wrist and lying unconscious. They rushed Oviya to the Tiruvannamalai government medical college hospital.

Tiruvannamalai East police have registered a case and are investigating whether her suicide attempt was due to work-related stress or an outcome of marital disputes.
