Stalin vows powerful Lokayukta if voted to power in the State

Reiterating that the Lokayukta legislation passed by the ruling government was toothless, Stalin recalled the reservations his party had expressed on the just enacted Tamil Nadu Lokayukta Act 2018. He said that he has learnt from ‘good-hearted’ people that some ministers in the AIADMK had asked the Chief Minister to incorporate the amendments proposed by the DMK.

Claiming that he learnt from the same sources that the CM wants the toothless Lokayukta to stay to protect himself and people associated with him, Stalin wondered if they could expect a strong Lokayukta to fight corruption from people whose sole agenda of staying in power was corruption.

Justifying his party’s walkout from the Assembly on the concluding day of Assembly session when the Lokayukta legislation was passed unanimously in the House, Stalin said, “Our request to the rulers is that there should be a Lokayukta with legal teeth to fight corruption. If they don’t do it, soon we will have the power to enact a strong Lokayukta legislation. 

That legislation will have teeth and power. Incumbent rulers, who will become erstwhile rulers, will be trapped in a situation where they will feel the teeth of the legislation,” cautioning the EPS government that they would be tried by the Lokayukta in the future DMK regime.
