‘Allot centres for Class 11 students in their taluk

The request comes in the wake of a number of students being allotted exam centres some 90 km away from Vellore district, source said.

This is the first time that the supplementary exams (July 5-13) were being conducted for class 11 students, who have failed in the regular exams conducted in March.

Teachers are at a loss to understand the rationale behind allotting far away centres for students from Tirupatthur and Kandili to appear in Vellore Katpadi.

Similarly, Vellore students were made to travel to Alangyam and Tirupatthur for the same exams. “When there was so much opposition from candidates who were asked to travel outside Tamil Nadu for the NEET exams, it is surprising that parents too are silent on the issue,” an education official said.

A total of 4000 candidates are writing the exams in Vellore district and for all it is a traumatic experience.

Sources revealed that when students who were found asleep in the exam hall were questioned, they replied that they were tired as they had started at 5 am from Kandili on the border of Vellore district to reach the centre in district headquarters. “Why force students to travel 90 km when they can allot centres within the same taluk” demand educationists.

Asked about this Vellore CEO S Mars said “it is an initiative of the Directorate of Examinations based on the number of candidates appearing for specific subjects.”
