    CII adopts 31 water bodies in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur districts

    The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Southern Region under the “CII-SR Water Alliance” has adopted 31 water bodies in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts for restoration with the support of the state Government, CII industry members and to be executed through the CII Foundation.

    responsibility initiative, has been initiating a number of projects under its development programmes for the industries to partner and showcase their commitment towards the nation building process. Water bodies rejuvenation would be a major initiative for the private sector to showcase the strength in creating the necessary impact.

    The CII on Wednesday handed over the Gangaiamman Temple Tank to the community which it restored in partnership with Grundfos Pumps India Private Limited.

    The Gangai Amman Temple Tank at suburban Injambakkam on the ECR caters to over 1,000 people in the community. The restoration initiative included, cleaning the lake’s floor bed, construction of the filter bed inlet and outlet, creating an easy access to the lake, strengthening of the bund, fencing and plantation around the waterbody.

    “Through this first-ever project initiated by CII, the community will experience thriving flora and improvement in community health,” a CII release here said.

    Ravi Sam, Chairman, CSR, Affirmative Action and Sustainability Sub-Committee, CII-Southern Region, said “Waterbodies rejuvenation would be a major initiative for the private sector to showcase the strength in creating the necessary impact.”

    “The CII has adopted 31 waterbodies in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts for restoration, which is also part of smart cities plan of the Greater Chennai Corporation,” he said.

    CII was also looking for more active participation of the industry in this space towards conserving the water bodies, he said.
