M Kannabiran (32) of Chathiram Pudukulam and T Balamurugan (27) of Palamadai village were accused of the incident after they allegedly threw petrol bombs at the residence on Sunday evening.

Their supporters pelted stones at buses in various locations in Tirunelveli Town protesting the arrests, sources said. Investigations revealed that nine buses under the city police limits and five more buses in other parts of the district were damaged in stone pelting incidents.

While four buses suffered damages at localities in Perumalpuram, three buses at Thachanallur and two buses at Pettai had been damaged. Besides, such incidents of stone pelting occurred at Muneerpallam, Moondradaippu, Manur, Tirunelveli taluk and at Thalayoothu.

Further, sources said erection of banners depicting images of their leaders in connection with a wedding held in Thoothukudi on Sunday led to enmity between supporters of these two groups.

Moreover, trouble erupted between these two groups while a car, in which few supporters were travelling to attend the wedding, did not give way to another.

Keeping this in mind, three persons hurled petrol bombs at John Pandian’s residence and sped away. Police force has been posted adequately. Investigation is on to nab the other accused in the incident, sources said.
