AP man trapped in trench on Annamalai hills rescued
A man from Telangana, who climbed the 2,668 feet high Annamalai hills alone and fell in to a trench, was rescued by Tiruvannamalai police in the early hours of Tuesday
Tiruvannamalai
Police said that Tarun (25) of Hyderabad came to Tiruvannamalai on Sunday to offer worship at Arunachaleswarar temple and decided to climb the adjoining hill where the Maha Deepam used to be lit during the annual Deepam festival.Â
After he reached the summit, Tarun accidentally slipped into a trench and was trapped. The youth immediately contacted his friend in Hyderabad through his mobile phone and explained his situation. His friend alerted Tarun’s father, Venketeswaran, who in turn sought the help of Ramana ashram authorities to save his son.Â
The ashram authorities informed Tiruvannamalai SP R Ponni on Monday afternoon about the trapped youth. The SP immediately set up a team of 20 armed reserve personnel and ordered a rescue operation. It was dark by the time the team reached the top of the hill. So, cops used torches and shouted out Tarun’s name to trace his exact location. The team’s efforts paid off and Tarun was rescued around 3 am.Â
As Tarun’s leg was injured in the fall, one of the cops assisted him to walk. He was later treated at the Tiruvannamalai government hospital. Further investigations are on.
