The team, which included officials of HLL Infra Tech Services Limited (HITES), an infrastructure development company under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, began the inspection at Thoppur around 9 am and it lasted for three hours.

HITES is the executing agency for the project. The multi-specialty hospital will come up on a sprawling 200-acre site. Since large chunks of land required for it are owned by the State government, it is expected that the process of land acquisition will not take much time. The team checked the access to groundwater sources and electricity.

Besides, the team also inspected a pipeline of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) running across the site. Soil tests were also made during the inspection. Following the inspection, the team held a review meeting with District Collector Veera Raghava Rao, sources said.

A preliminary report with the findings of the inspection would be forwarded to the government in three or four days’ time for further course of action.

Dean of Madurai Medical College D Maruthupandian along with officials from Departments of Revenue, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO), Public Works Department (PWD), Civil Engineering, Agriculture and IOC accompanied the team during the inspection, sources said.
