19 children hurt as bus falls into waterbody
As many as 19 children travelling in a school bus suffered injuries after the bus driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which then fell into a waterbody, on Monday.

The children, who stayed in various places including Nannilam, Poonthottam, Peralam and Kudavasan, were students of Sri Lalithaambiga Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Tiruvarur.Â
The school bus was carrying 30 children. When the bus was nearing Vellamandapam, the bus driver Mahendran lost control of the vehicles after its brakes failed.Â
The bus then fell into a waterbody and hit a tree. In the impact, 19 students and the bus driver got injured. On seeing the incident, bystanders ran to the spot and rescued the students from the damaged bus.Â
The injured were taken to the Nannilam Government Hospital. Among them, two students identified as Nisha and Vaishnavi reportedly suffered a fracture in their legs. They were shifted to a private hospital in Tiruvarur. Nannilam police have registered a case and are investigating into the incident.
