According to them, the purpose of regulating private schools would be served only if there was a clear mechanism at the district and block level where the parents could register the complaint. On Thursday, the government had tabled a bill in the state Assembly, seeking to regulate recognised private schools in the state. As per this, schools should be established in accordance with the provision of the Tamil Nadu Private Schools Regulation Act, 2018.

State Platform for Common School System-Tamil Nadu said that the regulation of private schools in the state should also affect government schools. “After the regulation of private institutions, the government should also come forward to strengthen its own schools,” P B Prince Gajendra Babu, general secretary, SPCSS-TN, told DT Next on Friday.

He said there should be a mechanism at the district and a block level, where parents could register the complaint and follow the progress of the school. “At present, there is no procedure for lodging official complaints. Though there are a few complaints by the parents, it has not been registered properly,” he said.

“The government will be able to know whether the private schools are functioning as per the new law only if the complaints are monitored,” Prince said. He said the new regulation would help the students and parents, as some of the private schools have been functioning as if they could not be controlled by anyone.
