Valarmathi gets bail, vows to continue protest
Student activist Valarmathi vowed to continue her fight against the proposed Salem-Chennai Green Corridor Project after she was released from prison on Thursday.
Coimbatore
The activist was released from Salem Central Prison after being granted conditional bail by a court in Salem on Thursday. Valarmathi was arrested last month for allegedly participating and mobilising people to protest against the Rs 10,000 crore Green Corridor Project.
While in prison, the Vadapalani police in Chennai had also arrested her for making provocative comments against the police force. She, however, got conditional bail in both the cases on Thursday.
“Police are clamping down voices of dissent by arresting the public and those against the eight-lane project. I will continue to fight against the project as farmers are resorting to even suicide against the acquiring of their lands. Our protests will be intensified by joining hands with all other groups,” she told reporters.
