Staff, Apollo hosp differ in Jayalalithaa’s heart attack timings
VK Sasikala’s brother Dhivakaran’s son Jeyanandh deposed before Justice A Arumughaswamy Enquiry Commission probing the death of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday.
Chennai
Speaking to reporters, Jeyanandh said that he had last met Jayalalithaa in 2011 before the fallout between her and Sasikala’s extended family. He added that he had been present in the hospital when Jayalalithaa was admitted to Apollo Hospitals on September 22, 2016.
He said that he had seen Jayalalithaa through the glass panel before the treatment and after she had regained consciousness. Jeyanandh was also subject to cross-examination by Sasikala’s counsel. A further discrepancy in details surrounding Jayalalithaa’s death has emerged. Account of the timing of the heartattack suffered by her provided by an employee of Apollo Hospitals and the management has been found to be different.
The operator of the echo machine, Nalini, is said to have informed the Commission that she was summoned to Jayalalithaa’s room after the latter had suffered a heart attack at 3.50 pm on December 4, 2016.
She said that as she entered, the doctors were attempting to revive Jayalalithaa’s heart and that her readings on the echo machine did not show signs of any heart functions. However, the account of the management stated that Jayalalithaa had suffered a heart attack at 4.20 pm on December 4, 2016.
As the Arumughaswamy Commission attempts to reconcile the various discrepancies, the Commission is set to submit its final report on October 24 this year. Over 50 individuals have deposed before the one-man commission thus far.
