Kamal seeks detailed debate in Assembly on Lokayukta Bill
Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan on Thursday stated a series of recommendations and proposals for the upcoming Lokayukta Bill.
Chennai
In a statement, Kamal said, “It has come to our notice that post five years of constant struggle and a mandate of the Hon’ble Supreme Court the Government of Tamil Nadu has finally decided to introduce The Lokayukta Bill in the Assembly.”
“The passing of the Lokayukta Bill is of paramount importance to the state of Tamil Nadu and the step to introduce the Bill is welcomed by Makkal Needhi Maiam. But, it is pertinent to note that the Bill must not be passed in a hurry owing to the delay, but needs to be analysed thoroughly,” he added.
He said that the Bill needs to be passed by a Special resolution of the Assembly. “The Draft Bill needs to be made available in public domain in order to educate and make the public more aware of the clauses and provisions of the proposed Bill. It is cardinal that the proposed Lokayukta must be an independent, autonomous body at all costs to ensure the objectives of the Act are truly realised,” he concluded.
The Makkal Needhi Maiam president had said earlier that his first signature were he to become Chief Minister, would be to set up a Lokayuta. He said it was shameful that Lokayukta had not been set up in the last four years and that it is one of the medicines that would cure the rampant disease called corruption.
