61-year-old held under POCSO Act
An elderly man was arrested for sexually abusing an eight-year-old girl in Tirupur district on Saturday night.

The victim, a Class 3 student was playing alone in her neighbourhood, when the accused Soundararajan, 61, a vegetable vendor from Kallangadu in Veerapandy tried to misbehave with her.
Under the influence of alcohol, Soundararajan took the girl to his house and tried to sexually assault her.
However, as the girl raised an alarm, residents came rushing and rescued her.
Based on a complaint by the girl’s father, the Veerapandi police registered a case and arrested Soundarajan under the POCSO Act. Further inquiries are under way.
