The arrested were identified as Pavan Kumar, Manikandan and Vijayakumar, residents of various localities across the town. The action came after they uploaded a call to congregate at the Anna statue on Sunday to take the agitation against the corridor forward on social media.

Meanwhile Tiruvannamalai SP R Ponni called on college students not to endanger their future by participating in an agitation based on baseless facts. Official sources said that a meeting was held with college authorities and that students have been warned that they would face disciplinary action from their colleges in addition to police action if they responded to the agitation call.

Meanwhile opposition to the Rs 10,000 crore project intensified in Chengam taluk in Tiruvannamalai district with angry farmers throwing out their ration cards and Aadhaar cards in front of revenue officials who arrived at the C Nimmiandhal village to undertake the revenue survey on Friday afternoon.

While a woman who attempted to immolate herself was stopped, another woman fainted while some rolled on the ground in protest. Some farmers pulled out boundary stones and threw them out of their fields. They also questioned when the officials tried to erect boundary stones since the government has sanctioned a 21-day objection period. The district administration announced that it would receive written objections from June 16 and hence the three-week period ends only on July 7.
