J Antony Samy of Palliagraharam, a proprietor of an earthmoving equipment rental business, had pledged the documents belonging to his friends to Chandran, who operated a finance firm in West Main Street in Thanjavur and got a loan of Rs 10.5 lakh.

Although Antony Samy had repaid both the principal and interest amounting to Rs 12.5 lakh, Chandran reportedly demanded more money to return the documents.

Subsequently, Antony Samy lodged a complaint with the District Superintendent of Police, which was then forwarded to M Jothimahalingam, Inspector at West police station.

However, the Inspector reportedly got hold of four property documents pledged by Antony Samy to Chandran.

While Jothimahalingam returned one of the documents to Antony Samy after the latter paid Rs 50,000, he reportedly demanded Rs 3 lakh more for returning the remaining documents.

Following this, Antony Samy filed a complaint with the DVAC police in Thanjavur.

After making some inquiries, they registered a case against the Jothimahalingam under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

DVAC sleuths visited the lodge in South Rampart area of Thanjavur where the Inspector, who is currently away for training, was staying. They sealed his room and intend to search it once Jothimahalingam returns from his training.
