No one can meddle with elected govt, Pondy CM takes a dig at LG

Addressing a press conference here, Narayanasamy referred to Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit undertaking visits to different districts of the state for review meetings, opposition parties opposing to this and the subsequent issue of warning a seven-year jail term if the Governor’s work was disrupted, insisting that as per the Constitution, hindering the work of the governor’s office alone was a crime. 

When the Governor or Chief Minister violate guidelines, the opposition has got every right to fight. Without being aware, Purohit had announced a punishment and Lt Governor Kiran Bedi has followed the same and posted in her Twitter account that this would be applicable in Puducherry too. 

Whether it was Puducherry or any other state, no one has got the powers to interfere in the day-to-day affairs of an elected government or take any decision and the Lt Governor’s announcement could not be accepted. 

Narayansamy said that we were in a democratic government and the Lt Governor should not hinder the implementation of people welfare schemes. Even though the violations by the Lt Governor were appraised with the Centre, she continued to do the same. 

Parliamentary Secretary to the Chief Minister had already moved the court against the Lt Governor and if necessary he (CM) would approach the court, Narayanasamy said.

Claiming that the BJP has got no right to criticise the ‘emergency’ imposed during the regime of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the Chief Minister said that presently there was an undeclared financial emergency. 

The CBI is now a wing of the BJP and the Income Tax and Enforcement departments are being used to malign those who acted against them, he charged.
