Speaking to media persons, after holding a public hearing with villagers, whose lands were earmarked to be acquired for the road project in Salem district, Ramadoss said that this is an unnecessary project being forced on the public.
“The views of the affected public will be submitted as a report to Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari demanding the implementation of the project through an alternative pathway,” he said.
Terming the project as unnecessary, Ramadoss said there were already three roads connecting Salem and Chennai.
“The CM says that the project is to be implemented for about 277 kilometres till Padappai in Kancheepuram district. From there, it will take 35 more kilometres to reach Chennai. So, what is the point in implementing this project,” he said, adding that the project is being executed mainly to extract iron ore in Kanjamalai.
Slamming the Union Ministry of Road Transport for sanctioning the project without even taking up an environmental assessment study, the MP condemned the police for arresting those speaking against the project.
