Kamal Haasan calls for personal satyagraha at album launch
Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan released an album featuring songs that spoke of the ethos and goals of his party, Makkal Needhi Maiam at the Kamaraj Arangam on Monday.
Chennai
The music album, titled Idhu Nammavar Padai, contains six tracks with social messages and lyrics that espouse the ideals on which the party was formed.
The lyrics for the album were penned by poet Snehan, a member of the Makkal Needhi Maiam.
The launch saw the attendance of Kamal Haasan and other high-level committee members of the party such as actor Sripriya, CK Kumaravel and Kamila Nasser.
Speaking at the event, Kamal said that the reason the party came into being was to stem the rot that has taken over our democracy in the last half a century. He asked that the members of his party not be complacent as their efforts are necessary to carry the message to the public. “Each one of you must perform a personal Satyagraha. There is no use looking for a Gandhi on the floor of Parliament. You are more likely to find him as a common man on our streets.”
The 63-year-old reiterated that he is keen on having an ear on the ground through the members of his party to understand the needs and grievances of the people better. He urged the audience not to give into corruption and discourage those who indulge in it. He said that he stated the party with a hope for change and even if he is no longer around to see results in the long run he wishes to sow the seed of progress through the efforts of Makkal Needhi Maiam.
