Governor acting beyond his powers, say Vaiko, Dhinakaran
Political leaders, including MDMK general secretary Vaiko and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran, on Monday accused Governor Banwarilal Purohit of acting beyond his powers and issuing statements threatening the opposition parties.

Vaiko said the Governor has no respect for the state government and he has been touring around the state conducting meetings with officials without allowing even the ministers to take part in such meetings. Through these actions he had exceeded the limits of his power as the Indian Constitution did not have give such powers to the Governor, he said in a statement here.
The Governor had violated the traditions and practices followed by his predecessors in Tamil Nadu and the DMK had conducted a peaceful black flag agitation. Even under President’s rule in Tamil Nadu, the Governors at that time had not resorted to press conferences.
Vaiko also recalled the statement of Governor inviting investors to meet him for setting up new industries and asked under what sections of the law he had made the statement. Meanwhile, speaking in Karur, Dhinakaran condemned the imprisonment threat for dissent against Governor’s inspections as against democracy. “This raises a doubt whether we are living in a democratic country. While it is acceptable to register cases against the political party which shows black flag but threatening imprisonment is the attitude of strangulating democracy,” he said.
