Murali, Secretary, Save MKU coalition, said that Chelladurai lacked both educational and administrative qualifications that are required for being a VC and they have been protesting against his appointment since the search committee recommended him. He also had an attempted murder case pending against him during his appointment and without take this into consideration, he was appointed as VC, they alleged.

When the Madras High Court set aside his appointment, Chelladurai appealed against the order in the Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court too refused to stay the high court order, as the Judge was informed that there was an attempted murder case pending against him.

Chelladurai had also appointed around 60 close associates in various positions. They too have various charges against them and they were unfit for the appointment, alleged Murali.

He also said that a resolution was passed by the MKU Syndicate in 2007 that MKU Registrar Chinniah should not be given any posts but he was given one of the highest posts in the university. Similarly, MKU Controller of Examination (COE) and Assistant COE also had charges pending against them and they too were appointed by the VC.

Even after Chelladurai’s appointment was set aside by the court and a three-member council was appointed to administer MKU, he is still present in his residential quarters inside the campus and is influencing the decisions of other MKU officials.

Murali alleged that there are complaints that Chelladurai is signing pre-dated documents in his quarters and is involved in forgery. His quarter is surrounded by men appointed by him and therefore the Governor must immediately dismiss him, on the basis of High Court order.
