In a statement issued here on Thursday, PMK founder S Ramadoss slammed the government for ignoring the ecological impact and destruction of agricultural lands belonging to a huge number of farmers that would be caused by the proposed corridor. “Taking these aspects into consideration, the PMK will hold public hearing in districts like Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri and Salem,” he said.

PMK MP Anbumani Ramadoss will preside over the meeting on June 26 and 27, while activists, representatives of farmers associations, volunteers and public are expected to attend the public hearing, Ramadoss said.

Launching a salvo at the government, Ramadoss charged “the government of forcefully quelling the protests by arresting the agitators.

This is highly condemnable.” Admitting the fact that the western region could not be denied high-tech road infrastructure, the PMK leader noted that there were already two bypass roads to Salem making the laying of eight-lane corridor redundant.
