The 63-year-old launched his party on February 21 this year. After the meeting, Kamal said that the officials did not have any major objections and that he expects the registration to be completed soon. They did not provide a time frame for the same. Kamal Haasan has also not decided on an election symbol yet.
Addressing newspersons, the MNM president shared his concern regarding the arrest of the people who opposed the Chennai-Salem green corridor, including activist Piyush Manush and actor Mansoor Ali Khan. “Merely talking about the environment serving as grounds for arrest is something that is unacceptable. Worries about the environment and about such schemes are prevalent among the common man. As a common man, I share the same concern about the protests that are going on currently,” he said.
Later in the evening, Kamal Haasan called on Congress President Rahul Gandhi. The meeting lasted for an hour. Kamal said that the visit was a courtesy call and that he had met Rahul Gandhi previously at the swearing-in ceremony of Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.
He added that while the two leaders discussed their parties and the state of politics in Tamil Nadu, the possibility of an alliance was not broached. Both leaders then took to Twitter to thank each other for their time.
When questioned about the allegations levelled by his former partner Gautami earlier this year about the non-payment of dues for her work in his films, Kamal clarified that all dues have been settled.
Kamal Haasan had offered his support to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal during his conflict with the Lieutenant Governor. He expressed his satisfaction that the issue has been amicably resolved. He said that his meeting with the Chief Minister of Delhi is contingent on time as his visit was unplanned.
