Mob justice for gang after bid to snatch agent’s phone
In an act of mob justice, five persons, who tried to waylay a 50-year-old banana wholesale agent at Vandavasi, were beaten up by locals and later handed over to the police on Monday.

According to sources, a five-member gang that came in two motorbikes intercepted Perumal (50), a banana wholesale agent, near a private school on Venkundram Road and demanded to part with whatever money he had.
When the agent told them that he had no cash on him, the gang snatched his mobile phone and tried to flee the spot. Subsequently, Perumal cried for help and those in the vicinity chased and caught two members of the gang. Both were beaten up by the locals and handed over to the Vandavasi police.
During interrogation, the duo gave details about their three associates, who escaped from the spot. Acting on their information, police went to a temple on Kancheepuram highway where the trio was hiding and nabbed them.
The five persons were identified as Asik (20) of Vandavasi, Devaraj (20), Syed Basha (20) Yuvaraj (20) and Dastagir (21), all residents of Kancheepuram. They were facing several criminal cases in Kancheepuram and Vandavasi. All the five persons were remanded in custody.
