PMK flays Rs 10 lakh fine on students discontinuing medicine in pvt colleges

In a statement on Saturday, PMK founder, S Ramadoss expressed shock over such an announcement. “It is a clear indication that the government is supporting only private medical colleges and the decision is against social justice. It is highly condemnable,” he said.

Stating that admission for medical course will start from August 1 and end on August 18, the PMK leader pointed out, “The announcement states that those students who discontinue between August 2 to 19 will be slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh, while a fine of Rs 10 lakh will be imposed on those students, who discontinue after August 19.”

Going by the present scenario, the government is keen to protect private medical colleges, Ramadoss charged.

“It is a fact that students, who get medical seats in private medical colleges would prefer other reputed colleges and it is not wrong in doing so. Moreover, those who join medical course in private medical colleges do so by borrowing. In such a scenario, the huge penalty for discontinuing medical course is atrocious,” the PMK leader noted.

Worse still, the government does not impose any fine on those discontinuing from government medical colleges. “So, it does not consider its loss of revenue and instead, it is providing shelter to the private medical colleges,” he said, urging the government to abandon such detrimental

decision.
