“Mobile libraries are already available in 12 districts. As they proved to be successful, efforts are being taken to extend the libraries to 20 more districts,” said School Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan in Erode district on Sunday.
Participating in a function to provide welfare assistance to the tune of Rs 48 lakh to 201 beneficiaries, the minister said vehicles carrying books would visit government schools for students to use the books.
As part of other reforms in the Education Department to enhance the employability skills of government school students, they will be trained in chartered accountancy, he said.
About 500 chartered accountants will be engaged to train 2,000 students in 16 districts across Tamil Nadu. “The training will be given to students after their Class 12 to enhance their employability skills,” the minister said.
The state government has inked a pact with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India to conduct CA training for government school students. Further, European tutors will be roped in to teach English for government school students to improve their English speaking skills.
“About 60 European teachers will be involved in teaching English to government school students,” he said.
The minister also said that facilities in Kodiveri dam, a popular tourist destination in Erode, will be developed with parking facilities and safety grill for the convenience of the public.
Boating facilities will be introduced in Kunderipallam to develop it into a tourist destination, he said.
