Government schools to get 5,000 smart classes soon
Each government school in the state is likely to have at least one smart class in the beginning of next year as the authorities are working in full swing to establish more than 5,000 smart classes by the end of this year.

Education Department sources on Saturday said that earlier the authorities were planning to establish only 1,500 smart classes.
“However, following the recent instructions from the Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan, the officials are now taking steps in setting up additional 3,500 smart classrooms in government schools,” a senior official from the department told DT Next.
He said the smart class, which will be used for middle school students mostly, will be equipped with white smart board, which can also be used as a screen to see video clippings and show slide shows.
Online resources such as WiFi connection, laptop/ desktop for teachers, overhead projector will also be available in the class. In addition, the classroom will also have CCTV camera, speakers and LED lighting setup.
Textbooks, which are available in the website, can be accessed by the teacher using a computer and will be displayed in the smart board through the overhead projector.
“This will make learning an enjoyable experience for students and will improve their academic performance,” the official pointed out.
He also said that before the beginning of the smart class, teachers will be trained to use desktop for accessing course materials from the website.
“More than 20,000 teachers will be trained soon to handle smart class efficiently,” he said adding experts will be hired to train the teachers in a phased manner.
He said that the government is also considering the move to provide tablets to the students in the smart class.
