Boating service resumes in Courtallam, courtesy monsoon
In wake of heavy rain, both the falls and the connected waterbodies has been receiving good flow. To make use of the situation and to cater to the tourists’ interests, the Tirunelveli district administration resumed the boating service in Courtallam on Saturday.

Courtallam, called the ‘Spa of South India’, is one of the most sough-after tourist destinations in southern districts. The Courtallam season commences after the summer vacation with the onset of southwest monsoon.
The region receives good rainfall during the monsoon period resulting in sufficient water flow in the falls and the water bodies.
As the water bodies have filled up, the Tirunelveli district administration recently decided to resume boating service in Courtallam. As planned, State Minister for Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare VM Rajalakshmi inaugurated the boating service and then took the first boat ride, along with Tirunelveli Collector Shilpa Prabhakar Satish, Tirunelveli MP KRP Prabakaran and Tenkasi MLA Selva Mohandas Pandian.
The boating facility was setup by the government in Mela Vennaimadaikulam, situated on the way to Five Falls from Main Falls, in Courtallam. The resumption of the boat service was aimed at offering the tourists an additional recreation during their visit to the falls, the minister said after taking the first boat ride.
Totally, 29 boats will be operated for tourists this year and the types include 16 pedalling boats, that could accommodate four persons, four pedalling boats, which could carry two persons each and five rowing boats with four-member seating capacity and four kayaks.
She also said that all the tourists would be provided safety jackets during the ride and wearing the safety jackets was mandatory.
