Police said that Selvakumar an employee of a shoe company near Ambur, was in a relationship with a woman colleague for over five years. Though he initially promised to marry her, Selvakumar later changed his mind and told her that he wanted to marry another woman. Upset over this, his girlfriend approached the Ambur All Women Police Station.

Fearing police action, Selvakumar went underground for nearly a month. As he was missing for a long time, his parents lodged a complaint with the Umarabad police. In an unexpected twist, Selvakumar contacted the woman on Thursday and informed that he would marry her. He asked her to come with jewels and cash to a particular spot near Jolarpet railway station. The woman grew suspicious over his sudden change of mind and informed the police and her parents.

In a bid to trap Selvakumar, the woman’s parents sent her to the spot with Rs 30,000 in cash and 10 sovereigns of jewels.

Soon after receiving the cash and jewels from her, Selvakumar tried to flee the spot. But, the policemen, who were keeping a watch on the spot, foiled his attempt. Selvakumar, who refused to marry the woman, finally agreed to tie the knot after police threatened him of action. Selvakumar and his girlfriend later left for Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh, where they had planned to marry in the presence of their relatives.
