Tiruvannamalai boy petitions Collector for power to his house, gets surprise gift

Nearly after 40 years, the house of Alphonse (43) of Navampattu village in Tiruvannamalai panchayat union got an electricity connection, thanks to a petition from Alphonse’s 10-year-old son Christuraj submitted to Collector KS Kandasamy. The Collector also surprised Christuraj, a specially-abled boy, with a cricket kit, which he used to yearn for.

Christuraj had visited the Collector’s office on May 29 and handed over a petition seeking power connection to their house, which has been without electricity for over 40 years.

On seeing the condition of Christuraj, Kandasamy asked him if he could read and write. Christuraj proved he could do both despite the challenges of his disability. The boy also told Kandasamy about his family’s plight, about his deaf father and a mother, and that both worked as coolies to make ends meet.

Moreover, Christuraj said that he used to play cricket with his friends near his house and that he wanted a cricket kit of his own.

On June 7, Kandasamy visited the boy at his house and handed over to him a cricket set, including bat, ball and stumps. Villagers excited by the Collector’s gesture, wanted to play cricket with him and Kandasamy obliged by asking Christuraj to bat while he kept the wickets.

The Collector again visited the village again on Wednesday to confirm that power connection was given to Alphonse’s house.
