E-learning videos for polytechic students
The Tamil Nadu government has decided to enhance learning methods for diploma students of state-run polytechnic colleges with the help of e-learning videos.

The Higher Education Department, which earmarked Rs 58 lakh for this purpose, will prepare 720 e-learning video modules for 36 subjects of five diploma courses in civil, mechanical, electrical and electronics, electronics and communication and computer engineering through the Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC) of Anna University. The video modules will be available on YouTube for the benefit of diploma students.
“We have completed about 400 video modules, which have been uploaded,” a senior official from the department said. The official added that in 2017-18 a total of 12,379 students, studying in government and government aided polytechnic colleges, have received free laptops from the government.
“About 12,000 students will be benefited this year as well,” he said, adding that apart from uploading the video modules, the clippings will be given to the students concerned in a CD so that they can use it in their laptops.
Stating that the duration of video clippings varies depending on the subject, the official said the video modules will have comprehensive teaching through practical way.
“An expert in that particular subject will explain in local language to that the student will understand easily,” he said adding that some videos will also explain about the projects, which will be taken up by the students in different semesters.
The official stated that with experts from EMRC, Anna University already involved in creating video modules, the uploading of all the learning visuals will be completed within two months. “The experts will also modify the videos in case of any changes required,” he added.
In this academic year, there are 517 government polytechnic colleges in the state offering diploma and certificate courses in various branches of students in engineering and technology.
