    ‘Activists threatened with false cases’

Despite being a democratic nation, people are being punished in the name of law for voicing for their rights. We are booked under several fake cases as a form of threat and the assault case in Tiruchy airport was one among them though I was not present on the scene,” said Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief coordinator Seeman here on Thursday.

On May 19, following the arrival of MDMK general secretary Vaiko and NTK leader Seeman on the same flight, both party cadres had assembled on the airport premises that prompted a verbal quarrel in raising slogans in praising their respective leaders. Soon, the verbal quarrel had reportedly snowballed into an assault and NTK cadre attacked MDMK members with wooden logs in which several MDMK workers sustained injury.

Subsequently, the MDMK district secretary Somu (59) filed a complaint at the Airport police station against Seeman and several other NTK workers. Based on the complaint, the police filed cases against the NTK cadre and arrested seven of them. Seeman was granted anticipatory bail from the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on June 4.

Meanwhile on Thursday, the case came up for hearing at the Judicial Magistrate Court V, thus Seeman had appeared before the judge. Than with proper surety Seeman was let out on bail.
