Vijayadharani, who was not allowed to raise an issue related to her native Kanniyakumari district was asked to resume her seat while she kept insisting the Speaker to allow her to speak.

Just as Dhanapal said she should resume her seat or face the consequences, she dared him to act. A perturbed Dhanapal said it wouldn’t fit him to occupy the chair if he spared her and called the House Marshals to evict her. She was evicted following a wordy altercation with the watch and ward staff.

As Congress Legislature Party leader KR Ramasamy attempted to raise the matter of her eviction, the Speaker said, “You saw her behaviour, it is condemnable. I had no other choice. So far, I have not ordered the eviction of any woman member of the House,” he said.

Ramasamy’s repeat attempt was cut short again by Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam who asked the Congress members not to continue with that episode. DMK deputy leader Duraimurugan urged that she be allowed to take up the issue later. Earlier, the Opposition threatened to stage a walkout if they were not allowed

    to raise sub-questions.

The Speaker, who intervened, said that he was experimenting with disallowing other legislators from asking sub-questions considering the duration of question hour which is the first hour every day, and would revert back to the old-system if it doesn’t help.

Duraimurgan observed that the Speaker can consult the Opposition on such policy decisions on the conduct of the House and the people expect them to raise questions in the Assembly. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami replied that even the ruling party has to raise questions and they too are part of the Assembly.
