DMK party rejig begins from western districts
The DMK high command has effected a minor revamp in its party organisation in six western districts of the state. Apart from a district secretary each in Coimbatore and Namakkal, several union secretaries have been given the sack in Coimbatore, Tirupur, The Nilgiris, Erode, Namakkal and Salem districts.

Former MP S Gandhiselvan has been appointed in-charge of Namakkal east district party unit, replacing P Elangovan, while Thendral Selvaraj has muscled out R Tamilmani to occupy the office of Coimbatore south district to better the functioning of the party there, a statement titled “Action taken after the district-wise review chaired by working president MK Stalin” and released by the high command on Sunday said.
Understandably, most of the sufferers of rejig were in Coimbatore, where several union secretaries in all four districts have been shown the door. The shake-up was expected given the party’s appalling performance there in the 2016 Assembly election in which poor show in the west was largely responsible for the party now occupying the Opposition instead of Treasury benches.
Notably, the party did not choose to disturb even a few lethargic district secretaries, who have been costing it dearly by generously opening up space to the rival AIADMK there.
