He also accused the ruling party of creating an economic slump in the state. Delivering an address at a public meeting in Karaikudi on Saturday night, Chidambaram said that in the last four years more than 50,000 micro, small and medium scale enterprises were shut down due to the bad economical policies of the Union government. Also 5 lakh workers had lost their job in the last four years of the BJP rule, he said. Handloom sector in Tirupur lost Rs 14,000 crore this year due to the slump in economics due to the policies of Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi, he charged.
“People are living in fear under the rule of Modi due to flourishing Hindutva. But in a country like India, the BJP should understand that there is no place for Hindutva,” said Chidambaram.
He also termed the Thoothukudi police firing as a gross violation of human rights and people were shot at the chest and mouth. He added that the two deputy tahsildars were made scapegoats for police action. “Don’t the policemen have any responsibility for taking the lives of common man,” he asked.
