NEET claims yet another student’s life in Tamil Nadu
Distressed that she performed poorly in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) reportedly due to negative marks for wrong answers, a girl in Tiruchy hanged herself at her home in the late hours of Wednesday. This is the second suicide after the result of the national level competitive examination was announced earlier this week.

K Subhasri (17), student of a private boarding school in Thuraiyur, had scored 907 marks in the Class 12 examination. However, in the entrance test for which she had joined a crash course at a coaching centre in Tiruchy, she performed poorly, scoring only 24 marks.
She kept on saying that she had attended all the questions without knowing that there were negative marks for wrong answers. She was seen dejected ever since she saw the results. Until Wednesday, she did not speak to us properly and even skipped food. Knowing that she was upset, we pacified and told her that we could admit her in a better college,” recalled her father V Kannan, a TNSTC driver and the district secretary of the AIADMK-affiliated trade union.
Late on Wednesday, when Kannan went to close the gates, Subhasri ran into a room and locked it from inside. “Out of fear, we kept on knocking but there was no response. When we checked through the windows, we saw her hanging from her dupatta,” Kannan said. The family members broke the door and rushed her to a private hospital. However, around 12.30 am, she was declared dead.
OnThursday, the body was handed over to the family members after post mortem examination at Srirangam GH.
Girl who left home over low score traced to Bihar
The 19-year-old Chennai girl, who left house dejected over her failure to secure a medical seat due low NEET score, was traced to Bihar from where her parents brought her back on Thursday.
After remaining incommunicado since she left her home, R Kodeeswari of Reddy Colony Road in Nammalwarpet near Purasawalkam switched on her phone on Wednesday afternoon. This enabled the City Police to track her to Patna in Bihar. The team here immediately alerted the Bihar police about the missing girl.
The police there formed a special squad and traced her phone to a hotel in Patna from where Kodeeswari was rescued. As soon as it was confirmed, Secretariat Colony police alerted her parents. Kodeeswari’s father Ramar and her sister flew to Patna, said inspector E Rajeshwari, adding that they were on their way back to Chennai.
Kodeeswari had secured enough marks to be eligible for a BDS admission, but decided to forgo it as MBBS was her dream. However, this time she scored lesser than last year, leaving her shattered.
Following this, she ran away from home, leaving behind a note behind stating that she did not want to be a burden to them.
