Security beefed up outside Puducherry Assembly, Opposition stages walkout
The Opposition AIADMK and N R Congress staged a walk-out in the territorial Assembly on Monday.

While the AIADMK was protesting the failure of the Speaker to admit an adjournment motion given by the party, the N R Congress walked out of the House protesting the tight security provided to the Assembly and the failure of the Congress government in fulfilling the promises it made.
After the obituary reference, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy moved several papers on the table of the House when the AIADMK group stood up with posters in their hands and argued with the Speaker about the adjournment motion moved by the party.
Party leader A Anbazhagan said that he had moved the adjournment motion to discuss several issues, including the distribution of free rice, provision of old age pension and the deteriorating law and order situation.
As the speaker paid no heed to the request of the member, the AIADMK members with the posters reading “do not cheat the poor” marched to the Speaker’s podium and began shouting even as the Chief Minister continued to read out the list of papers to be placed on the table of the House. Irate over this, the AIADMK members staged a walk-out.
Subsequently, the main Opposition N R Congress, led by leader of the Opposition N Rangasamy, were on their feet protesting the security provided to the Assembly building.
The security was tightened after some BJP members tried to enter the Assembly.
BJP members’ bid to enter Assembly foiled, 3 arrested
Over one hundred volunteers of the BJP, including state party president Saminathan, were arrested when they attempted to picket the Puducherry Legislative Assembly on Monday.
Saminathan had already announced that the three nominated BJP members, Shankar, Selvaganapathy and Saminathan, would enter the Assembly on Monday, the opening day of the budget session. The volunteers gathered at the Swadeshi cotton mills and took out a procession. At Anna Saalai, police blocked the procession and arrested them.
The union Home Ministry had allegedly nominated the three BJP activists without consulting the state government. Parliamentary Secretary to the Chief Minister, K Lakshminarayanan, had moved the Madras High Court. Despite the court ruling in favour of the BJP, Speaker V Vaithilingam refused to allow the members in the House.
