A resolution was adopted at a meeting of DMK district secretaries and MLAs chaired by Working President MK Stalin, obliging leaders of alliance and friendly parties who had appealed to the party to call off the boycott at a rally organised in Tiruvarur Friday to celebrate DMK president M Karunanidhi’s 95th birthday.

DMK has been boycotting the House since the opening day of the current Assembly on Tuesday, demanding that the ruling AIADMK make a policy decision on closure of Sterlite Copper in Thoothukudi.

The DMK resolution also said the mock Assembly conducted by them has helped people understand the police raj being run by the AIADMK regime emboldened by the support from the BJP. Recalling the suggestions made in the Tiruvarur rally by leaders who said the House was not a preserve of the AIADMK, Stalin said the people affected by the high-handed AIADMK regime were compelling them to attend the Assembly session.

Though the AIADMK does not support constructive debates in the House, the DMK, which believes in democracy, would respect the suggestions of leaders and people and return to the House from Monday, he added.
