“There is no provision in the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Act 1971 specifying the maximum age limit to hold the office of the Vice-Chancellor. It is considered to specify the retirement age of the V-C as 70 years on a par with the retirement age of V-Cs under the Central Universities Act 2009 so as to utilise the knowledge and experience gained by the academicians for the advancement of learning and propagating of research in agricultural and allied sciences in the state. Accordingly, the government have decided to amend the said Act to specify the retirement age of the V-C as 70 years,” said Doraikkannu in the statement of objects and reasons.
