Autopsy redone on Thoothukudi firing victims
Post-mortem examinations of seven victims of police firing was repeated.

The autopsy of seven bodies was repeated at Thoothukudi general hospital. Abiding by the Madras High Court order Ambika Prasad Batra, neurology and forensic specialist from JIPMER, Puducherry, and conducted the autopsy with a team of local doctors. Judicial Magistrate, Annamalai, monitored the post-mortem.Â
Two of the bodies, Shanmugam and Selvasekar, were handed over to their kin on Thursday. The bodies of Karthick and Kandiah will be handed over on Friday. Muthupandi, Karthick’s father, received a compensation of Rs10 lakh from Sandeep Nanduri. However, three families refused to accept the bodies.
Thoothukudi schools to reopen
As normalcy returned to Thoothukudi after the police firing on anti-Sterlite protesters. Schools would be reopened on Friday as planned, said Thoothukudi Collector, Sandeep Nanduri, on Thursday.
Though life was limping back to normalcy, residents of Thoothukudi had doubts whether the schools would be reopened on Friday as previously assured by the state government.
Thoothukudi district administration had however announced that the schools would be reopened as planned and there would not be any change.
Addressing the media, Sandeep Nanduri, the district collector, said that the normalcy had returned to Thoothukudi and there is enough police protection provided in the town to ensure that situation is under control.
There have been no incidents of violence in the last four or five days and so they decided to reopen the schools on Friday.
