    With 97.37 percent, Chennai stands 2nd in CBSE Class 10

    The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the Class 10 board exam results on Tuesday. The overall pass percentage was 86.70%. Like in the Class 12 CBSE results, Chennai region again secured the second position with a pass percentage of 97.37 per cent.

    The Chennai region includes students from Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, Maharashtra, Goa, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Daman and Diu. However, this year’s percentage is lower than last year’s 99.62%. The top three performing regions are Thiruvananthapuram (pass percentage 99.60%), Chennai (97.37%) and Ajmer (91.86%). 

    Of the 11.06 lakh students who appeared for the exams, 1.9 lakh candidates had registered from Chennai region. The exams were held between March 5 and April 12. No Tamil Nadu student figured in the top rankers list.  

    Prakhar Mittal from DPS, Gurgaon, Rizhim Agarwal from RP Public School Bijnor, Nandini Garg from Scottish International School, Shamli and Sreelakshmi from Bhavan’s Vidyalaya in Kochi, jointly secured the first position pan India. They all received 499 out of 500. 

    Seven students secured the second position with 498 marks while 14 students bagged the third spot with a score of 497. From Chennai, Malavika Venkatesh from DAV Girls Senior Higher Secondary School, Gopalapuram, was one of the toppers, having secured 493 out of 500. Malavika’s classmate Madhumita stood second in the school by securing 491 out of 500. “I will take up Science in Plus 2. Mathematics is my favourite subject. I want to study Architecture later,” Malavika told DTNext

    In Chennai, 1,93,833 students appeared for the exam and 1.8 lakh candidates passed with flying colours. Of those who passed out, 1.06 lakh were boys and 82,225 girls.

    Recently, CBSE had issued a notification stating that Class 10 students, taking board examinations in 2018 with five main subjects, would be exempted from the mandatory separate pass criteria in the subjects having component of 20 marks internal assessment and board examination of 80 marks. 

    The CBSE further clarified that candidates need to secure overall 33 % (internal and external) in the subject to be able to pass.

    Class 11 state board results today

    The fate of over about 8.6 lakh class 11 students in Tamil Nadu will be decided on Wednesday as the Directorate of Examinations is set to announce the results. This is the first batch of Class 11 students appearing for board exams and results could be viewed in tnresults.nic.in and dge.tn.nic.in. 

    The exams started on March 7 and ended on April 16. As many as 8,63,668 students including 1,753 private candidates appeared for the exams. A total of 5,28,819 students were Science group students while 2.42 lakh students were in the Commerce group. In Chennai, more than 49,000 students appeared for the exams in 156 exam centres.
