Website launched for centralised admissions
A new website for the Centralised Admission Committee (Centac) of the Union Territory government was launched here on Wednesday.
Chennai
Using the site, candidates may download application forms and prospectus and apply for both technical and non-technical courses.
Launching the website, Education Minister Kamalakannan said that hitherto online admission was available for engineering and medicine and other technical courses.
Students needed to opt for the manual method for non-technical courses and with the launch of the new site, candidates may apply for any course and can give their preference list.
In the manual method, they could choose only four preferences and now there is no restriction, he added.
Education Secretary Anbarasu, speaking on the occasion, said that online counselling and admission were in practice in several states, including Tamil Nadu.
Puducherry is the first in the country to introduce online admission in all colleges in a single application, he said and added that students who scored high marks inÂ
Class 12 and wanted to pursue medicine used to block a science seat in arts and science colleges on apprehension that they may not get a medical seat.
This will hinder the students who scored less and under the present system no seats could be blocked, he added.
