Jayakumar likened the DMK’s act to the devil preaching sermons and blamed the erstwhile DMK regime for having betrayed the people of Thoothukudi. “Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami exposed the DMK’s betrayal in detail in the House on Tuesday. The DMK is rattled as this has exposed their role in the issue.
The Leader of Opposition and DMK working president M K Stalin is scared to come to the House. This has scared them as they believe the people would reject them on account of this issue (Sterlite),” Jayakumar said. The CM has also assured that necessary action would be taken on those responsible for the violence based on the outcome of the probe ordered by the government, he said.
“The AIADMK has tasted legal success in the 22-year-old Cauvery issue. The DMK could not stomach it, while it had further scared it as it feared it would be further alienated from the people,” he said.
Recalling a DMK Speaker’s treatment of opposition legislators in the House, Jayakumar claimed that R Avudaiyappan used to address the Opposition without any regard for their self-respect.
He also recalled an incident in 2006 where the ruling party was interjecting the speech of late J Jayalalithaa and how the opposition members were ill-treated.
While heaping praise on Dhanapal for conducting the House in an exemplary manner, Jayakumar asserted that the DMK does not have any locus standi to speak on the tenets of democracy.
“From the beginning, the DMKtried to disrupt the proceedings. However, the Speaker has been very patient,” he said.
