In an effort to ensure students, who failed in their Class 12 and 10 examinations, do well in their next attempt, the district administration has planned to provide them counselling.
Chennai
A total of 3,428 students in the district had failed in the Class 12 board exams, while another 1,733 students failed in the SSLC examinations.
According to Chief Educational Officer (CEO) V Jayakumar, higher secondary students from four panchayat unions, including Tiruvannamalai, will be provided counselling starting from Wednesday. The counselling session will be held at a private school on the Manalurpet road.
Jayakumar added that students who failed in several subjects and did not want to continue their studies would be provided vocational training. Similar help will be provided for SSLC students at a date yet to be announced. The counselling would be provided with the help of a psychological expert from Madurai, the
CEO said.
A four-day camp would be held at the CEO’s office to attend to grievances of teachers in both Tiruvannamalai and Cheyyar education districts.
RTE admissions
Meanwhile, non-minority private schools under the supervision of revenue and education department officials resorted to draw of lots to fill up 25 per cent of the seats available for entry level classes under Right to Education (RTE). A total of 5621 applications were filed for 4,020 seats in 268 non-minority private schools in Tiruvannamalai district.
As applications outnumbered the vacancies, officials used lots to determine the successful applicants. RTE rules stipulate that candidates seeking admission could approach schools located within a kilometre distance from their residence.
