Attacked for rejecting proposal, says girl

The victim, identified as Azana (20), a resident of Ulundurpet, was working in a private industry at Virudhachalam.

According to sources, the incident occurred on Monday morning when Azana was walking along with friend to her workplace after getting down from the bus.

An unidentified man, who came on a motor cycle, parked the vehicle and started walking behind them.

When the victim reached a lonely place, the miscreant slit her throat. The victim and her friend shouted for help but the miscreant fled the spot before public could reach.

The victim was immediately rushed to the Virudhachalam Government General Hospital where she was being treated. A case was registered by Virudhachalam police and initiated investigation into the matter.

In her report to the police, Azana said that a youth from Kallakurichi had sent her marriage proposal but as she did not like the youth she rejected the proposal.

However, the youth continued requesting her for sometime even after her rejection. Azana told police that the youth may be having role in the attack.
