Speaking to reporters at the airport here, he said the media itself had fallen a prey to the diversionary tactics of the government by discussing about it round the clock and telecasting debates on it. The AMMK leader said he was aware of the existence of the audio clip since doctor Sivakumar had already told him about it.

Dhinakaran said Sivakumar was a relative to him and he was also his family doctor. The doctor had submitted the audio clip to the Arumughaswamy commission which had released it suddenly to fulfil the government’s agenda of diverting people’s attention from the Thoothukudi firing incident.

On the proposed visit of Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam to Thoothukudi, the AMMK leader said the government should announce that Sterlite factory would be closed. Before meeting the people such a guarantee should be given since the closure of the factory is the demand of the people. He said the ministers should not visit Thoothukudi since they have to go about with heavy police protection. “People detest the police uniform since they had killed even those who had not taken part in the anti-Sterlite agitation. People are angry with policemen and the Ministers will be sent out of Thoothukudi, if they go with police protection,” he said.

Denying the claim of Minister Kadambur Raju that the police used lathi charge and tear gas before starting the shooting, Dhinakaran said “The police firing showed the inability of the government, failure of intelligence and the failure of the Collector and the SP.

To a query on restoring normally in Thoothukudi, he said the people are calm but the police are disrupting peace by illegally detaining youth. The new Collector and SP had assured that there would be no illegal detentions.
