Rajinikanth posted a video on his Twitter handle, where he said, “I strongly condemn the government’s apathy and failure of the government machinery as well as the barbaric and lawless acts of the police on the Sterlite issue. My deepest condolences to the families that have lost their loved ones.” He also issued a statement against the actions of the police and government on the ground and called for peace and calm to prevail.

Meanwhile, the actor-politician was apparently invited to Bengaluru to take part in the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Karnataka government, but did not attend the event. Ever since he faced criticism for his silence on key issues in the state, he has been more vocal in expressing his views.

Rajinikanth is expected to enter politics in the coming months, after having declared his intention in December last year, though the 67-year-old has not provided an official date yet for the launch of his party.
