Mutharaiyar anniversary passes off peacefully
Ignoring the police instructions for the birth anniversary of Perumbidigu Mutharaiyar, leaders of the community arrived in large groups on Wednesday, whereas the youths travelled on bikes and garlanded the statue of the chieftain.

Ministers Vellamandi N Natarajan and S Valarmathi along with MPs, other AIADMK functionaries and Collector K Rajamani garlanded the statue of Mutharaiyar. Subsequently, the members of the caste associations also garlanded the statue.
Thereafter, the youth, mostly from rural areas, gathered before the statue and shouted slogans in praise of the leader. They rushed towards the statue in large numbers. However they were allowed one by one. They also took out a procession on two-wheelers holding flags across the city. The Mutharaiyar organisations were instructed to come in a single vehicle.
Except for garlanding of the statue, no other activities were allowed. In view of the celebrations, traffic regulations and route diversions were announced in many places.
