Union govt planning to bring fuel under GST, claims Tamilisai
Amid criticism over increasing fuel prices, BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan in Coimbatore said that the Centre is trying to reduce fuel prices by bringing it under the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

“We are concerned over the increasing prices of fuel. Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has also already made it clear that the Centre is trying to bring fuel under the GST to reduce its prices,” said Tamilisai to reporters, while emerging out of the Coimbatore international airport.
Stating that the Union government shouldn’t be blamed for increasing fuel prices, the BJP leader urged the state government to reduce its tax on fuel.
“For petrol and diesel, the Union government levies a tax of 30 per cent and its 50 per cent by the state government. The state government should come forward to reduce its tax. I have also written to Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to reduce the state tax,” she said.
Further, the BJP is planning to hold meetings in all the 40 parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for getting a favourable verdict in the long-standing Cauvery dispute.
“The Union government’s Cauvery Draft Scheme has played a pivotal role in the positive verdict. We are planning to conduct ‘Cauvery Vetri Vizha’ across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry,” she said.
“Tamil Nadu will get water as per the apex court verdict,” she asserted. Delving more on the issue, the BJP leader also slammed DMK working president MK Stalin’s announcement to celebrate M Karunanidhi’s birthday as victory day over Cauvery issue.
“The BJP government has succeeded in what the DMK had failed to do. Why does the DMK participate in the swearing-in ceremony of Kumaraswamy, who spoke against sharing of Cauvery water? Ironically the Congress and JDS, which were defeated by people, are celebrating their victory in Karnataka,” she said.
She arrived in Coimbatore and proceeded to Pollachi to participate in a party meet.
