The audio of Perambalur MLA Thamizhselvan threatening the Project Director (Women projects) to include a few women recommended by him for the Amma subsidised two-wheeler scheme has gone viral. It may be noted that the proposed beneficiaries have not even applied for it. Meanwhile, the revenue staff petitioned the Collector against the MLA.
It is said, after a few applicants named by the Perambalur MLA R Thamizhselvan were missing in the list of beneficiaries of Amma subsidised two-wheeler scheme, the MLA went to the Perambalur District Magalir Thittam (Women Project) office on May 21 along with his supporters and created a ruckus reportedly threatening the staff.
Later, Thamizhselvan, who called the Project Director Devanathan over the phone, started addressing the official in vulgar language and repeatedly insisted him to add the names recommended by him.
Subsequently, the official explained the norms and told the MLA that most of the names were not found in the online list. He also pointed out that the list has been cleared by the Collector and he cannot do anything on that.
At this point, the MLA warned the official that he has been disregarding him and the official should respond to him since he has given the recommendation letter to him and not to the Collector. “Give me the list of beneficiaries who have received the two-wheeler so far,” asked the MLA.
When the Project Director refused, the irritated MLA started abusing the official. At this juncture, the official was heard saying, “Sir, you are a people’s representative, please speak like that and give respect.”
The MLA spoke more harshly and asked the official to cut the call. Following it, Revenue officials in Perambalur have approached the Collector to initiate action against the MLA and give protection to the officials.
