Classes 3, 5 and 8 would be covered under the survey in terms of skills such as reading fluency, retention of information after listening, grammar, expression in an explicit manner, spelling, mathematical skills and scientific knowledge and aptitude.

Ahead of the survey, the children would also be given the Simplified Activity Based Learning (SABL), a student-centered teaching and learning methodology.

The activity cards have been simplified and redesigned as the SABL is based on the trimester pattern of textbooks. The trimester system is being followed in Tamil Nadu for Classes 1 to 8 over the past few years. The implementation of the system has had significant enhancement in children’s learning achievement levels, which will be confirmed in the SLA survey. The SABL would also provide a great platform for children to express their potential. The activity-based learning would allow kids to learn fundamentals at their own pace.

On completion of the activity, every student would feel a sense of accomplishment, which would boost their confidence. It would facilitate learning in groups, mutual and self-learning.
